Common Problems
This page is here to keep all you Avenger owners abreast
of any problems (performance, mechanical, or otherwise)
that can afflict the Avenger. Personally, I've had no
serious problems, but I've heard from various sources
that the 4-cyl model can be difficult at times.

Not long after I got my Avenger, the factory alarm started
acting up. Ocasionally, it would just go off spontaneously.
This was a very frustrating problem, because there's no easy way
to disable the alarm (that I know of) -- I tried pulling fuses,
etc., and you can't lock the doors without activating it. Finally
I took my car to a dealership and they fixed it in about 20 minutes.
They told me it was a faulty hood switch.

The day I drove my new Avenger ES home from the dealership, I
noticed some wind noise and a buzzing sound coming from the passenger side
of the car. After I got the car home and did some investigation, I
discovered a blob of caulking behind the weatherstripping beneath the door.
After trimming this off, the wind noise was gone, but the mysterious buzzing
noise comes and goes at will. It appears to be some time of wind noise, but
it is definately not coming from the door, instead it appears to be
somewhere beneath the dash. Everytime I get ready to take it to the dealer,
the noise vanishes for a couple of days. The noise is most noticeable
around 70mph and does not vary with engine speed or air conditioning
settings. The only other problem I have experienced is that the sunroof
shade comes off track occasionally, but it is easy to fix. Overall, I love
every aspect of the car

About six months after I bought my 1995 black Avanger, I
noticed the paint started turning a milky, faded colour.
This became noticable in direct sunlight on the hood,
driver and passenger doors, and trunk lid. I called
Chrysler customer service and after some discussion was
informed that there was moisture in the clear coat, this is
a known problem, and to have the dealership repaint the
entire car. While at the dealership I was told that they
worked on a red one with the same problem. This is just an
FYI - - if you notice your paint fading, make sure to get
it in and repainted, right from scratch.
